  Pharmacy Training

The pharmacy profession touches every aspect of healthcare, with opportunities in many different sectors. It requires a commitment to high standards of competence, professionalism and co-operation, in order to best serve the interests of patients and communities.

  Opportunities at Netcare

We operate 88 pharmacies across the country situated in Netcare hospitals and Medicross Medical Centres. We offer posts to pharmacists country-wide, with most opportunities in the Gauteng province.

Netcare runs a well-respected internship programme and most of our facilities are registered for training. Interns may be invited to participate in ward rounds or to view various surgical procedures, dependent on the facility in which they are training.

We also run a Pharmacist Development Programme for senior pharmacists and new managers. This takes the form of modules of two days each with a project to be completed at the end of the course.

For more information on Netcare’s internship programme and opportunities in pharmacy, please contact us on recruitment@netcare.co.za

Training consists of four years of full-time study which leads to the awarding of a Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy, followed by a 12 month pre-registration practical training period.

During the academic training, a candidate may register as a pharmacist’s assistant after successful completion of the first year of study. This enables him/her to work part time in a pharmacy under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. Registration is cancelled when a candidate discontinues his/her studies or registers as a pharmacist intern.

After successful completion of the year of practical training, as well as a pre-registration evaluation, the intern is registered as a pharmacist, and must do one year of pharmaceutical community service in a public sector facility before he/she can practice independently as a pharmacist.
