  About TOPP

Training Outside Public Practice (TOPP) provides an alternative route for accounting trainees to qualify as Chartered Accountants (SA), with training taking place in the commerce and industry sector. The TOPP programme was established in 1997 by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) http://www.saica.co.za , motivated by the fact that most Chartered Accountants took up positions in commerce and industry upon qualifying.

TOPP at Netcare

Netcare is one of the Top 40 listed companies on the JSE, employing around 20,000 people. Our TOPP programme offers trainees:

  • Attractive market-related salaries.
  • Generous study leave.
  • Payment of board course fees and QE exams.
  • Management and personal skills training

Qualified Chartered Accountants act as mentors to trainees, to monitor their progress and assist with their personal development. Current trainees also assist with guiding new trainees.

The programme enables you to gain exposure and competence in demonstrating your abilities within the core learning areas of Financial Management, Management Accounting, Financial Accounting, and Taxation and Internal Auditing, as required by SAICA. The time allotted to each area and the level of experience is prescribed by SAICA, and trainee accountants will rotate throughout the organisation to gain relevant experience.

How to apply

The TOPP programme is open to all applicants who have a B Com (Hons)/CTA degree or who are completing a B Com (Hons)/CTA degree in the current year to enable them to write the QE1 in the following year.
