Over 100 pairs of colourful socks brought delight to the children of Marang House and the adults looking on as they dug among the big, bright pile of new socks to choose the pairs they liked best.

The pairs of socks were collected through a CrazySocks4Docs awareness drive arranged by Netcare Olivedale Hospital and donated to Marang House, which is a non-profit organisation based in Northcliff caring for underprivileged children living with chronic illnesses.

“CrazySocks4Docs is an awareness drive about the importance of mental health in healthcare,” says Eugene Ferreira, general manager of Netcare Olivedale Hospital.

“This year, we included a collection of socks as part of our hospital’s observance of CrazySocks4Docs 2023, and we are most grateful for the heart-warming support from the doctors, staff and patients that enabled us to hand over the donation to Marang House and see the children’s joyful reaction to their new socks.” Marang House provides hope and care for seriously ill children, whose families in many cases cannot provide for their often complex medical needs, frequent transport to hospitals for treatments, daily testing, dialysis or other requirements. It also relies on donations for the children’s essential provisions like clothes, housing, and food. “We salute the wonderful work Marang House is doing to take care of the children and bring fun and happiness that is so vital to a child’s daily life. We hope these socks brightened their day and will keep their little feet warm in the cold winter weather,” Ferreira concludes.
