NetcarePlus extends private healthcare to more people with more solutions

Friday, September 16 2022

The need for quality and affordable healthcare has never been more important, amidst South Africa’s strained economic conditions, and the rising cost of living.

Consumers are increasingly looking for more affordable healthcare options, that can respond to their needs while ensuring that they have access to quality care, particularly in emergency and unplanned situations.

According to the Council for Medical Schemes’ 2020 annual report, the number of South Africans on medical aid has progressively reduced over the last decade, with only 15% of South Africans currently covered by medical aid.

Using a range of insights, NetcarePlus, part of the Netcare Group, has stepped in to introduce a range of innovative products, offering clients access to quality, affordable healthcare when they need it the most.

Speaking during NetcarePlus’ intermediary launch event, Teshlin Akaloo, managing director of NetcarePlus said, “By putting people’s needs at the centre of our products, we have been deliberate in making sure our products can serve the currently underserved, who are not able to access private healthcare.  By looking closely at the costs of healthcare services, and by leveraging the Netcare network, we have been able to develop products that meet the needs of our clients more effectively and in a way that provides more certainty should they face unforeseen medical emergencies or trauma events.”

The new range of products follows the introduction of various solutions introduced since July 2020.  These include prepaid day-to-day healthcare consultations with general practitioners (GPs), dentists and optometrists, unlimited accident and trauma cover, an innovative prepaid solution for certain elective procedures, as well as gap cover for those on medical aid.

NetcarePlus has now added to its EmergencyCare range its newest innovation, the Accident and Emergency Illness Cover, which will provide clients with cover for emergency illness events, in addition to accident and trauma events.

Akaloo explained, “By filling the growing gap in the market where clients can be assured of excellent medical care in cases of emergencies, accidents and trauma events, our latest Accident and Emergency Illness Cover, will provide clients with peace of mind if they do not have medical aid. Clients will receive affordable, life-saving emergency care from Netcare and other private hospitals.  As part of the product offering, cover is provided for emergency medical treatment, with a range of other benefits also included.”

"All our products are designed to ensure that clients have access to Netcare‘s facilities whether it is for treatment in an emergency or through our GapCare product that creates access to Netcare’s hospitals and specialists even if a client’s medical aid option has limitations on the hospital or specialist that can be used. This enables more choice and wider access to world class care beyond your medical scheme limits”, Akaloo elaborated.

“Through our continuous innovations, NetcarePlus can deliver on our commitment that plus means more.  We strive to continue introducing innovative products that meets this promise.  We want to offer clients a new, affordable way to get private healthcare,” concluded Akaloo.
