Obstetrics Unit Netcare Garden City Hospitals gynaecologists provide comprehensive gynaecological care.
The hospital’s Obstetrics Unit provides total mother and baby care. Comprehensive obstetric services are offered, addressing ante-natal care, labour and delivery, breast feeding assistance and post-natal care. The Obstetrics Unit has four Pre-Delivery Rooms, two Delivery rooms and a fully equipped theatre for Caesarean Sections.
The maternity ward provides home-from-home comfort for mothers and their infants and a well baby nursery for rooming-in.

Orthopaedic Surgery Netcare Garden City Hospital has the orthopaedic surgery facilities and specialists to perform hand surgery, back and neck surgery, shoulder surgery, hip surgery, knee surgery and foot surgery. 24-hour Accident and Emergency Department The Accident and Emergency Department is fully equipped to handle all traumas – from accidents and hi-jack incidents to domestic injuries; as well as general emergencies. Facilities include a spacious, state-of-the-art resuscitation room; specialised treatment rooms; a plaster room, a scope room and a recovery room. The Unit has an easily accessible and dedicated heli-pad and hangar which is staffed by highly-trained emergency medical professionals. We have also introduced the new electronic triage system which displays the patient’s progress on the screen and also captures the information on system. We believe the system put into place will help with the long waiting times in the unit. |

Rape Crisis Centre Integral to the 24-hour Accident and Emergency Unit is a Netcare-accredited Rape Crisis Centre which offers specialist care to rape victims and their families in a respectful, caring environment. Services include pathological tests, pharmacological therapy including anti-viral therapy, counseling and other support services. |

Stem Cell Transplant Unit The launch of Netcare’s first complete private haematology and bone marrow unit at Netcare Garden City Hospital brings new hope to patients who suffer from cancers and other disease that affect the bone marrow. The unit offers patients stem cell transplants in a complete protective isolation unit. This fully protective isolation unit will cater for patients needing stem cell transplant as part of the treatment for haematological and other malignancies and manned by a multidisciplinary nursing staff and medical specialist. This unit will form part of an oncology unit in Section 7 with a day ward for chemotherapy. The unit is also equipped to handle patients for a prolonged stay, as they have to spend a minimum of six weeks in hospital. |

Private isolation wards are available for those in need of barrier nursing care. • Gastroenterology – A state-of-the-art endoscopic service is offered using the latest equipment for both diagnostic and therapeutic interventions relating to gastroscopy, colonoscopy and ERCP. Comprehensive management of all digestive disorders is provided with a special interest of the oesophagus, colon, liver, pancreas and biliary tree. • Pulmonology – A complete diagnostic and management programme is offered for all respiratory diseases, including occupational lung diseases and sleep-related disorders. A fully equipped lung function laboratory is available for evaluation of respiratory diseases. A specialist pulmonary rehabilitation programme is provided for patients with chronic lung disease. • Nephrology – Netcare Garden City Hospital offers a 24-hour a day renal care service incorporating all forms of dialysis and kidney transplant procedures as well as acute or chronic condition of the kidney.

The hospital was established in the 1960’s as a 60 bed nursing home, run by missionaries and progressed to a 395 bed multi-disciplinary hospital. The hospital performed approximately 400 kidney transplants.
