Managing Side Effects

Side effects of chemotherapy

Side effects are different for each person – some people have many, while others hardly have any. The team will watch you closely and ask you if you notice any problems. If you do have side effects, your oncologist or chemotherapy nurse will discuss ways to manage them.

Chemotherapy works by stopping or slowing down the growth of cancer cells, which grow and divide quickly. It can also harm healthy cells that divide quickly, such as those that line your mouth and intestines or cause your hair to grow. Damage to healthy cells may cause side effects, often side effects get better or go away after chemotherapy is over.
