Our high care wards have been designed specifically for providing appropriate care to persons in need of a higher level of individual care and monitoring. Beds are located close to the nursing station so that the patients can be observed 24 hours a day.
When patients are diagnosed to be at high risk either to themselves or to others, we need to be able to offer them a higher level of individual care. Our high care ward is where those patients can get the treatment they need, in a safe and secure environment, with appropriate round the clock monitoring.
Certain of our facilities incorporate a high care ward - a voluntary but locked space that is separate from other units in the facility, with a higher ratio of nursing and therapeutic staff to patients than in other units. We refer to these patients requiring high care as 'assisted' patients, as they are not capable of making informed decisions about their care, for example, due to active psychosis, but have not refused the health interventions. (This is aligned with the terms of the Mental Health Care Act of 2002).
As part of our commitment to providing the best and safest care to all of our patients, we listen. If you have anything you'd like to ask us, or need assistance accessing our services, please get in touch.
