Day wards in acute hospitals

In addition to Netcare day hospitals, there are dedicated day theatres and day wards within Netcare acute care hospitals. Various contracted medical schemes also support when patients use the day facilities within Netcare’s acute care hospitals when the same fee levels are billed as in Netcare day hospitals.

Because you are admitted, operated, and discharged on the same day, it makes your planning for a procedure easier and lessens the disruption to your work and home life.

Day procedures

  • Biopsies, for example of the breast, prostate, bones and throat

  • Dental and maxilla-facial surgery, for example dental implants and sinus floor augmentation

Admission requirements

The doctor who will be performing the surgery will arrange a theatre date for your surgery.

Medical scheme patients

Once your doctor has confirmed the date with you, medical scheme patients are required to obtain authorisation from their medical scheme. Any co-payments required by your medical scheme, or any previously outstanding balance must be settled on the day of surgery.

Netcare day hospitals have preferred provider network agreements with most medical schemes. Netcare also have similar agreements for the use of day facilities within Netcare hospitals. Please confirm with your doctor and medical scheme if the day hospital is covered on your scheme plan.

Private patients

Once your doctor has confirmed the date with you, private patients need to contact the day hospital for a cost estimate, as a deposit will be required prior to surgery.
