Healthy living, healthy heart

Netcare Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital to host free Heart Awareness talk

Friday, January 25 2013

The festive season is just around the corner, bringing with it the temptation to indulge in food and drinks that are not heart healthy. It would therefore be wise to bear in mind that heart disease, which can largely be prevented through some basic lifestyle changes, is the second leading cause of death in South Africa. To mark World Heart Day (Sunday, 29 September) and the end of National Heart Awareness Month, Netcare Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital will be hosting a free heart awareness talk on Friday, 27 September, to educate the public about the importance of healthy living for a healthy heart.

Dr Jerzy Z. Przybojewski, a cardiologist at Netcare Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital, will be presenting the talk, which will focus on equipping individuals with tools to guard against heart disease. A dietician based at the hospital will also be on hand to offer advice on eating for a healthy heart and personal trainers from Zone Fitness in Cape Quarter will be there to suggest a number of different exercise regimes to stay in good shape. A number of handy information brochures will be available to take home.

Members of the public are invited to attend the talk, which will take place from 12pm to 1pm at the Chris Barnard Auditorium at Netcare Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital. For more information call Michelle Norris on 021 480 6125.
