Within the pre-hospital emergency care environment critically ill and injured patients are transported to medical facilities that are best equipped to provide the most appropriate level of care, speciality and expertise in order to meet the needs of each individual patient.
This service extends well beyond the scene of an accident to the homes of patients and also includes the vital process of moving patients between healthcare facilities to ensure that optimal care is at all times delivered, and that the most appropriate resources are utilised to ensure the best possible patient outcomes.
Given the tremendous workload shouldered by hospitals and the nursing staff working at hospital level and the growing service offering of Netcare 911’s Emergency Operations Centre, it is crucial that every effort be made to streamline administrative processes where ever possible.
Historically all inter-hospital transfers were requested and communicated telephonically. As accurate information had to be relayed, captured and confirmed, this process consumed valuable time at hospital level and also within the Netcare 911 Emergency Operations Centre.
The new Netcare 911 inter-hospital transfer portal will simplify and expedite Netcare 911’s processes when it comes to facilitating the transportation of patients between hospitals. By harnessing numerous advancements in technology and internal systems, the inter-hospital transfer portal will enable the hospital teams to capture their requests directly onto the Netcare 911 system.
How will this work?
All hospital employees will be able to access this system via a web-based portal by logging into the system. A number of security systems and protocols have been put in place to ensure patient confidentiality and to ensure that the security of patient details are at all times maintained.
As the hospital will have all of the patient information immediately on hand, this will remove any potential for error thereby improving accuracy and reducing delays in telephonic and manual data capturing.
The process for requesting inter-hospital transfers will be used by all facilities throughout the country. With the use of this portal, transfers will be more transparent with all relevant information communicated every step of the way. This includes the generation of automated reference numbers as soon as the request has been captured by the hospital team.
Some advantages of the IHT portal:
- Reduced inter-hospital transfer request time for hospitals
- Reduced data capturing time within the Netcare 911 Emergency Operations Centre
- A reduction in errors during the data capturing process
- Improved transparency and accuracy requests due to single point data capturing at the requesting site.
