Medicross Krugersdorp pays tribute to legendary doctor

Loss of retired medical practitioner is deeply felt

Monday, July 6 2020

“Medicross deeply regrets the passing of Dr Daniel Wynand Steyn, a retired general practitioner who served Medicross Krugersdorp for no fewer than 23 years. His loss is deeply felt by his former colleagues,” said Dr Billyy van der Merwe, managing director of Netcare’s Primary Care Division, of which Medicross is a subsidiary.

“Dr Steyn was a much loved and highly respected doctor, and he is fondly remembered by his colleagues at Medicross Krugersdorp and the patients he treated with such care and consideration throughout his many years of service at the facility. We extend our deepest condolences to Dr Steyn’s family at this very sad time,” added Dr Van der Merwe.

Dr Steyn passed away on Sunday, 28 June 2020 at the age of 93. He leaves behind his daughter Alma Lindeque and his son Danie Steyn, as well as 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He enjoyed reading history, and his hobbies included woodwork and gardening. He particularly enjoyed growing the ancient and slow growing “broodbome”, or cycads.

“Dr Steyn was an outstanding family doctor and a man who touched the lives of his patients in a meaningful way. He leaves behind a great legacy of caring and will be sorely missed,” concluded Dr Van der Merwe.
