Appreciation for healthcare workers on Mandela Day
Hundreds of milk tarts and doctors lend a helping hand
A generous gift of 600 milk tarts from local businesses, and doctors volunteering 67 minutes of their time to lend a helping hand to staff members in various departments of Netcare Greenacres Hospital on Friday, 17 July, in commemoration of Mandela Day on 18 July, uplifted the healthcare workers at the hospital.
“On behalf of all of us at the hospital, I would like to thank the local businesses for the appreciation they have shown for our colleagues who are at the frontline of caring for patients during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic. Their unexpected gesture was a pleasant surprise for all and was highly appreciated,” says André Bothma, general manager of Netcare Greenacres Hospital.
The local business that reached out to make the day special for the hospital’s healthcare workers are Continental Deli, which produced the milk tarts, and BidFood, Grocery Express, Exim Spices, Crown National, Woodlands Dairy, Sprint Packaging and Ouro Pack that sponsored them.
“I would like also to express our gratitude to the doctors practising at our hospital for volunteering to give some of their valuable time to assist our colleagues with their jobs. Every person working in healthcare – whether they are nurses, porters, cleaners, administrative, technical, security or catering staff, doctors or other healthcare practitioners – is crucial to supporting the health and well-being of our patients and also supporting their communities, particularly during the current unprecedented pandemic,” Bothma added.
“This Mandela Day, we applaud healthcare workers everywhere for their dedication and care, and encourage the public to adhere to every precautionary measure to help prevent the further spread of COVID-19,” Bothma concluded.
