Celebrating 25 years of contribution to South Africa

“Our purpose as healthcare workers have never been clearer and more inspiring.”

Friday, December 3 2021

Netcare was formally established on 4 December 1996, the day the new Constitution of South Africa was approved by the Constitutional Court.

“Since then Netcare has grown from modest beginnings to develop and become part of the fabric of South Africa’s tapestry,” said Dr Richard Friedland, chief executive officer of the Netcare Group speaking on the eve of the 25th year anniversary of the company.

“We have been there for South Africans through thick and thin. Through the heights of the Soccer World Cup and the challenges of the national nursing strike, Marikana and other local and international disasters to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have provided support and care,” he noted.

“Over twenty-five years we have brought enormous innovation and numerous firsts to healthcare in South Africa and have had the privilege of providing compassionate care to millions of South Africans. We continue to transform our organisation while making a meaningful contribution to society.”

“Through Netcare 911, millions of indigent South Africans have benefitted from emergency care and through our national sexual assault clinics we have provided care to thousands of survivors of rape. Through Netcare Education, we have trained more than fifty thousand nurses, paramedics and healthcare workers. As responsible citizens, we lead the continent in environmental sustainability in healthcare,” said Friedland.

“To all those to whom we have had the privilege of serving and providing care, thank YOU for entrusting us with your care. And, to all on our frontlines and all those behind the scenes supporting our nurses, doctors, pharmacists, paramedics, allied healthcare professionals and healthcare workers, there are no words adequate to express our gratitude and appreciation.

“As we look to the future, never before has our purpose as healthcare workers been clearer and more inspiring,” concluded Dr Friedland.
