Netcare hospitals invite women to learn more about conditions which may impact their health

Netcare Park Lane and Netcare Rand hospitals to host free women’s health awareness event

Friday, November 7 2014

Did you know that one in 29 South African women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime? Or that cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women in our country after breast cancer, but also one of the most successfully treatable cancers? Are you aware that one in three South African women will develop osteoporosis, which causes the bones to become more brittle, and which shows no visible symptoms?

With women being the heart of every home, and often the main breadwinner, it is becoming ever more important that they take charge of their health and stay informed about the latest available treatments.

Bearing this in mind, Netcare Park Lane and Netcare Rand hospitals will be hosting a free Women’s Health Awareness Day on Sunday, 16 November, from 08:30 to 15:00 at Hazeldene Hall in Parktown. Various workshops will be held from 08.30 to 12.00, while a number of free health screenings, information stalls, prizes and even fun events for the kids will be available between 12:30 and 15:00.

The workshops will involve three informative and interactive talks by prominent doctors from the two hospitals, and will cover the current management of menopause, bio-identicals and osteoporosis, and advances in mammography for the treatment of breast cancer. “This event is a must for all women, young and old, who are concerned about the state of their health or who want to stay healthy,” says the general manager of Netcare Park Lane and Netcare Rand hospitals, Cobus Venter.

Anyone who is interested in attending the event should please book by emailing Terelga Bald on [email protected] or by SMSing their name to 061 218 5642.
