Monday, October 29 2018

Netcare Parklands Hospital in Durban recently hosted a Pink Tea in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a global health initiative held every October to raise awareness of breast cancer, raise funds for cancer research, and to support those affected by the condition.

The Pink Tea, which was attended by cancer survivors, hospital patients, and members of the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) and Reach for Recovery, was highly informative and the participants expressed their appreciation at having attended, says Kalpana Haribhai, the marketing officer at Netcare Parklands Hospital.

“This successful event, which was held on 23 October, was held in honour of and to support those with breast cancer. We particularly wanted our patients to know that they not only have the full support of the doctors and staff at our hospital, but also of groups such as CANSA and Reach for Recovery, which are doing such important work in our community,” adds Haribhai.

“With talks by oncologists, physiologists, dieticians, survivors and members of support groups, the Pink Tea programme at Netcare Parklands Hospital was well rounded and most informative,” said Linda Cipolla of CANSA.

“CANSA is most grateful that the hospital have provided our organisation with the opportunity to participate in and speak at this invaluable event.”

Speakers included Dr Lucille Heslop, an oncologist from Durban Oncology; specialist surgeon, Dr Harshadkumar Ishwarlal Rajput; dietician, Mandy Reid; Dr Donée Ness from Physio Solutions; Cheyanne Jacob, medical orthotist and prosthetist from Furqaan Khamissa; Linda Cipolla from CANSA; and Nirri Moethilalh,  chairperson of Reach for Recovery, Durban region.

“Netcare Parklands Hospital would like to thank all of those who participated in the day, the speakers for their insightful talks, as well as the sponsors of the event which included Lancet Laboratories, Ampath Laboratories, Lake Smit and Partners, Cupcakes for Kids with Cancer, and Look Good Feel Good,” concluded Haribhai.
