A project whereby state - of - the - art da Vinci r obotic surgical technology is being introduced by Netcare in Johannesb urg and Cape Town will not only offer significant benefits to patients , but is also contributing to the develop ment of important medical skills in South Africa.

This is according to Jacques du Plessis, managing director of the Netcare hospital division, who says the Netcare in itia ti ve goes w ell beyond merely installing the highly advanced technology at Netcare Waterfall City Hospital in Midrand and Netcare Christiaan Barnard Mem orial Hospital in Cape Town. As part of the project, Netcare, in collaboration with the loca l distributors of the system, is ensuring that the local urologists who will be using it are equipped with the necessary skills . The cutting edge technology is designed to assi s t surgeons in perform ing intricate procedures in a minimally invasive manner.
