Roll up your sleeve this ‘Vooma Vaccination’ Weekend at Netcare vaccination sites in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape. In support of the President’s call to accelerate South Africa’s vaccine uptake, Netcare is making it even easier for those who have not yet been vaccinated to do so outside of the working week. This forms part of the company’s bid to ensure more people have protection against COVID-19 ahead of the busy holiday season and a possible fourth wave.
“There is no time to lose if you haven’t had your COVID-19 vaccine yet, or if it is time for your second dose,” says Mande Toubkin, general manager: emergency, trauma, transplant and corporate social investment at Netcare.
This Saturday Netcare vaccination sites will be open at Netcare Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg, Netcare Lakeview Hospital in Benoni, Johannesburg, Netcare St Augustine’s Hospital, in Durban, Old Mutual Park in Pinelands, Cape Town, from 08h00 to 16h00, and a pop-up site at Mams Mall in Mamelodi, Pretoria.
The Mams Mall Netcare pop-up vaccination site will be in the parking area of the mall between entrances three and four this weekend. It will be open from 09h00 until 16h00 on Saturday, 2 October, and from 08h00 to 16h00 on Sunday, 3 October.
President Cyril Ramaphosa on Wednesday announced the nationwide mass vaccination drive named the Vooma Vaccination Weekend, bringing together the public and private health sectors, organised labour and business as well as community- and faith-based organisations to help speed up the pace of rollout so that more people will benefit from COVID-19 vaccination.
“The Pfizer vaccine requires two vaccine dosages 42 days apart. This means people who are not yet vaccinated and want to have optimal immunity against COVID-19 by December need to have their first dose as soon as possible to protect themselves and their loved ones,” she says.
“We are trying to make it as easy and convenient as possible for people who may find it difficult to take time out of the working week to have their COVID-19 vaccination. In the past 20 weeks, Netcare vaccination sites have made great strides in providing lifesaving protection against Covid-19 for healthcare workers and members of the public, and we are looking forward to vaccinating many more individuals this weekend,” Toubkin says.
“We warmly encourage you to bring your adult relatives, friends and domestic helpers to be vaccinated too. The safety and effectiveness of the vaccine for preventing serious illness or death from Covid-19 is well supported. This really is a most worthwhile weekend activity, as lives depend on getting this vaccine in time.”
There is no charge for the COVID-19 vaccine, and there is no need to book an appointment because walk-ins are most welcome. Simply bring your ID document, passport or refugee card, or an affidavit certified by SAPS. If you have medical aid, please bring your membership card. We can also assist you to register on the electronic vaccination data system [EVDS] if you have not already done so.
“Our vaccination site staff will be wearing distinctive bright green ‘Peace, love and vaccinate’ t-shirts. Please do your part towards making South Africa safer by taking part in the Vooma Vaccination Weekend, as the more people who are vaccinated, the greater the level of protection in our communities and in our country will be.
“Protect your loved ones and colleagues by choosing to be vaccinated against COVID-19. This collective action can help us to overcome the pandemic and get back to a sense of normality, as well as flatten the curve of an expected fourth wave to save many more lives,” Toubkin concludes.
