At Netcare Unitas Hospital, a large, multidisciplinary healthcare facility renowned for its advanced medical technology and specialist care, the hum of routine medical care has gained a new edge. This is thanks to Burger Radiologists’ recent addition of the Fujifilm SCENARIA View CT scanner, which delivers diagnostic imaging that is faster, sharper and safer than before.
According to Dr Werner Steyn, radiologist at Burger Radiologists, “Scan times are much shorter, and the wider bore accommodates more body types, which many patients find more comfortable and less claustrophobic. The system’s iterative reconstruction software can significantly reduce radiation exposure, enhancing safety without compromising image quality.

“This is so much more than just an equipment upgrade – it is a meaningful step forward in patient-centred imaging. CT scans play a vital role in modern medicine, revealing injuries, diseases, and structural issues with unmatched clarity. The new scanner captures sharper, high-definition images that support better clinical decisions across specialties.”
Introduced in 2022, the SCENARIA View marks a significant advance in computed tomography. Its 64-slice acquisition system, with up to 128-slice reconstruction, delivers detailed cross-sectional views essential for diagnosing injuries, cancers, infections and more.
“Our goal is precise, reliable imaging with patient safety at the heart of everything we do. Faster scans mean less time spent lying still in the machine, which improves comfort and reduces anxiety. This blend of speed, precision, and patient-friendly design is not just a win for diagnostics but is a vital tool in emergency medicine.
“The first scans done at Netcare Unitas Hospital with the SCENARIA View included CT skull base to symphysis studies – whole-body scans critical in trauma, cancer staging, and infection evaluation. The high-resolution images help doctors make swift, lifesaving decisions. In trauma, time is often critical, and this scanner’s rapid image capture can improve outcomes,” explains Dr Steyn.

For cardiologists, the SCENARIA View’s Focus Edition delivers a clear advantage. Its Cardio StillShot technology captures motion-corrected, high-definition images of the beating heart – critical for patients whose conditions demand absolute clarity, where even slight blurring can obscure crucial details. This precise cardiac imaging fills a crucial gap in assessing heart function and structure, drawing keen interest from specialists handling complex cases. As the need for advanced cardiac care continues to increase, it is becoming an essential tool for improving diagnostic accuracy while enhancing patient outcomes.
Pieter Louw, general manager of Netcare Unitas Hospital, sums it up: “Our hospital is known for specialist expertise and advanced technology, and this scanner elevates the standard of care clinicians can provide and patients can expect every day. It strengthens our healthcare specialists’ ability to diagnose a wide range of conditions with greater accuracy and safety, directly improving patient care.
“The hospital’s reputation as a comprehensive care centre – equipped for emergency, paediatric and specialist services – is further bolstered by investments like this. The new equipment will help doctors diagnose injuries, illnesses, and diseases with even greater precision. Whether it’s spotting fractures, detecting tumours, or evaluating organ function, CT scans deliver critical information that’s often unreachable via other methods.
“At the end of the day, this technology isn’t just about the sophisticated imaging equipment – it is about giving doctors the tools they need to save lives, and the additional confidence this provides for our community in the world-class standards of care they have come to expect at our hospital,” concludes Louw.
